As part of the Literary Festival 2021, Alliance Française de Kandy has organized an online moderated Literary Chat with two of the most famous authors in Sri Lanka. Ashok Ferrey (Author)
“Ashok Ferrey has been many things: failed builder, indifferent mathematician, barman, and personal trainer to the rich and the infamous. He is also an author. Ashok’s first two books, Colpetty People and The Good Little Ceylonese Girl, were each shortlisted for Sri Lanka’s Gratiaen Award and his third, the novel Serendipity, was shortlisted for the State Literary Award of 2009. He currently hosts an arts programme on Sri Lankan national television, The Ashok Ferrey Show, and is guest lecturer at the Sri Lanka Institute of Architecture. He lives in Colombo with his wife, two kids and his cholesterol.”
During AFK Literary Chat, Ashok Ferrey will talk about his latest novel, The Ceaseless Chatter of Demons, which has been translated into French and is very popular amongst French readers!
Malinda Seneviratne (Author)
“Malinda Seneviratne is a development sociologist by training who has wandered in and out of journalism over the past twenty years. He is currently the Director/CEO of the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute. He has published seven collections of poetry, five of which were shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize which he won in 2013 for ‘Edges.’ He also won the H A I Goonetilleka Prize for translations awarded by the Gratiaen Trust in 2011 for Simon Navagaththegama’s ‘Sansaraaranyaye Dadayakkaraya’ and in 2020 for Mahinda Prasad Masimbula’s ‘Senkottan’.”
Dr. Harshana Rambukwella (Moderator)
Dr. Harshana Rambukwella is Director of the Postgraduate Institute of English, Open University of Sri Lanka. He received his PhD from the University of Hong Kong, where he is Honorary Assistant Professor at the School of English. Harshana’s research interests are in literary history, postcolonial theory and sociolinguistics. He is a trustee of the Gratiaen Trust of Sri Lanka and has served on a number of Sinhala and English literary panels in the country.
